Step 1: Understanding the
Process: Introduction
We know your frustration.
You write your first book and can't find a publisher. What now?
- you could sell
your book to Vanity Presses, but there is no guarantee that they will
publish your book
- you could self
publish and distribute your book at a high cost
- you could hire
an agent
Not too promising.
Well how about another option that will publish and distribute your book
electronically at a cost less than $20.
Web Reader.Com is
an Internet Alternative Publishing Book Store for unpublished (and published)
authors. We can take your book and publish it electronically on our web
site. What's the catch? Nothing, except a small, one-time $19.95 electronic
consignment and processing fee (this fee will be waived for the first
100 authors). That's it. Then when your book sells, we take a percentage
of the total sale as our fee for maintaining your book on our web site.
We handle hosting,
payment processing, marketing the Web Reader.Com name, and all operations
related to file download and payment processing. You sit back and collect
the income. You will not incur any publishing or inventory distribution
costs. Of course, you will need to market your book to increase sales.
And we can help by featuring and tying your book to other related books
of interest. Consider our web site as the electronic bookstore for unpublished
and unrecognized authors and artists.
So if you have something
to publish, move quickly to Step 2. You are under
no obligation if you decide to change your mind.

Step 2: Getting Yourself
Registered
You will need to register
with us if you are a first-time author with Web Reader.Com. You are under
no obligation and there is NO COST for registration.
The only information
we require for registration is your name, e-mail address where you can
be contacted if necessary, and a brief description of the work you may
be submitting for publication. Note that we believe in the artistic value
of all writers and will not pre-judge anyone's work as offensive or unfit
for alternative distribution. However, we reserve the right to refuse
any submission that we deem inappropriate for Web Reader.Com distribution.
Review our exception policy.
We welcome all types
of manuscripts and artistic expressions. Examples may include:
- Cookbooks

today and let's get your book or artistic work online.

Step 3: Preparing Your
Manuscript for Electronic Publishing
The type of manuscript
you need to send us for review is the exact type of manuscript you would
send to a publishing house. Our only exception is that we need your manuscript
in PDF format. We'll explain later. Let's first review the type of manuscript
we need:
- Cover letter including
your name, address, and e-mail address
- 1-2 page synopsis
of your work
- Author Biography
(if you choose)
- Chapter Synopsis
(if you choose)
- The Entire Book
or Artistic Work
We require different
manuscripts for each type of submission, see our manuscript preparation file.
As mentioned, your
manuscript must be in PDF format. We do not accept paper submissions or
electronic submissions of any form except PDF. You can convert your manuscript
to PDF by using desktop publishing programs such as Adobe PageMaker ®,
MS Word ®, Quark Express ®, Word Perfect ® and Post Script
plug-in devices. If you have paper drawn illustrations or art, you must
scan your art into PDF format. We have more information
on PDF conversions and format.
You can add any interactive
functions you like to your PDF book. All PDF books and artistic illustrations
that we market on Web Reader.Com will be assigned an interactive ranking.
PDF books that have links, bookmarks, and other interactive medium will
be given a higher ranking and possibly a higher selling price than PDF
books that are simple open-and-view PDF files.
Below is an example
of our interactive ranking sytem. You can submit something simple . .
. something really dynamic . . . or something in between:
| |
Web
Reader.Com Interactive Ranking System |
| Low: |
PDF file that
has no links or dynamic controls. The file will be a simple conversion
of the your manuscript into PDF. The file will open like a regular
document that can be read and printed, but the user must use the
Reader application to move from page-to-page.

| Medium: |
PDF file that
uses bookmarks to navigate the file. The user can link to any topic
(or chapter) by clicking a topic in the bookmark index.

|
| High: |
PDF file that
uses hyper links and other interactive forms to guide the reader
through the book. This option makes your PDF file really dynamic.

|
| Very
High: |
PDF file that
uses hyperlinks, interactive forms, notes and other graphic elements
that trigger sound, video and web connections to the author's web
site for supporting elements. This option uses all options of PDF
technology and will generally command a higher selling price.

PDF file types
from Medium to Very High require the Adobe® Acrobat®
software to add hyperlinks and other dynamic controls. Link directly

time to learn new software or PDF techniques, or if you would prefer to

full name on the submission form
Second: indicate
the type of manuscript you will be submitting. See
our manuscript preparation file for manuscript types and information.
Third: personally

3.
Fourth: submit the
form.
Fifth: link to our
email filer and attach your PDF files
Sixth: email us
your manuscript submission
We will review your
manuscript for electronic publication. We publish just about anything
as long as your book has value. See our exception policy. Upon review and approval of your
manuscript for publication, we will set the price for the book based on
value, popularity of the topic and interactive ranking.
Pricing will range
between $2.00 and $6.95 -- most books will average around $3.00-$5.00.
PDF books that have interactive controls will be set at the higher price.
None of our products will be priced above $7.00, except for rare exceptions
for reference books and screen plays.
Why are our prices
so low? Because of the value we offer our buyers. We don't incur physical
publishing costs. We don't incur physical distribution or shelving costs.
And we don't incur middle supplier markup costs. So we can pass the savings
onto the buyer. Besides, you the writer will get paid more by publishing
your book electronically.
For example, a regular
book sells for about $15-$20 at a physical and electronic bookstore. Publishing,
distribution, markup, etc., takes about $12-14 of the total price. Royalties
to you may average $1 per book sale if you can find a publisher that awards
a high royalty percentage for first-time authors.
If we price your book
for $3.00, we will take 40% of the total sale for our retail markup. That
leaves you $1.80 for every sale. You win and so do our customers who can
buy your book instantly at a low price.

Step 5: Approving Your
Manuscript for Publishing
All submitted manuscripts
that meet our publishing guidelines will be placed under contract that
specify the following:
- You, the author
or creator of said work, give Web Reader.Com the consignment rights

THAT MAY OR MAY NOT RESULT FROM YOUR USE OR DOWNLOAD OF THESE FILES.
THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE LIMITATION OF LIABILITY THAT APPLIES TO ALL
DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING (WITHOUT LIMITATION) COMPENSATORY,
DIRECT, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, LOSS OF DATA, INCOME OR
PROFIT, LOSS OF OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND CLAIMS OF THIRD PARTIES.
Some states or jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation
of incidental, consequential or special damages, or the exclusion
of implied warranties or limitation on how long an implied warranty
may last, so the above limitations may not apply to you.
You agree that
you are of legal age to enter into this sales agreement.
GOVERNING
LAW. This Agreement will be governed by the laws of the State
of Virginia,
- Web Reader.Com
is responsible for the sale, processing, operations, and maintenance
of download for all books and artistic works. No fees of any kind will
be assessed to the author or creator of said work. Upon sale, Web Reader.Com
will post the sale amount to the author's account. Web Reader.Com will
then take 40% of the total sales transaction as a retail markup fee.
The remaining 60% of the total sales transaction will be credited to
your account.
Note: Web Reader.Com reserves the right to review and change the allocation
of revenue sales.
- If you agree with
the terms noted above, we will post your PDF file to the Internet and
establish your sales account. See Step 6.

Step 6: Loading your book
or artistic work onto the Web Reader.Com web site
You will link to a
web site address to review our publishing contract. It will contain all
the information related to your submitted manuscript. Click to accept
the agreed terms. Upon acceptance, you will then submit payment for the
following:
Non-refundable Consignment
Fee: $12
Non-refundable Account
Set-Up Fee: $7.95
Total Payment: $19.95
(this fee is waived at
this time)
You can pay the $19.95
consignment and processing fees by credit card; we offer a secured SSL
connection to protect your credit card inforomation. No other payment
forms will be accepted. Click here for more
information on payment methods.
Once we receive payment,
we will load your PDF file onto our web site as outlined in Step
5. The process may take up to 7 business days. You will be notified
once we have your book or artistic work posted.

Step 7: Marketing and selling
your book or artistic work
It is the responsibility
of the author to market their own book or artistic work. Consider Web
Reader.Com as an electronic bookstore. We will display books or artistic
works as we determine. Works that are popular will be displayed more often
than works that are not popular. We make that determination, not the author.
You could not walk into a major bookstore and demand that they place your
book in the front window. That same policy holds true for us. If your
book sales, it will be displayed on our pages that target potential buyers.
However, you can do
anything you like to drive buyers to your book. Suggestions include:
- pass out business
cards showing the web site address where your book can be bought (include
the low price)
- build and market
your own web site (we will list your web site address on your biography
page; note: we will list the address, not create a link)
- pass out flyers
- put together a
speaking circuit
- other sale tactics:
research the web for ideas

Step 8: Getting Paid
We will establish
a personal account under your registration code where all sales will be
posted. You may view your account at a web site address we provide upon
acceptance of agreed terms (not currently in operation).
Payments from your
account will be made monthly. We will issue a check in your name and mail
it to your address. Payments will be made for all dollar volumes above
$25. If your account is below $25, then payment for the month will delayed
until your account reaches $25. However, you may request payment anytime
by contacting Web Reader.Com.
Your account will
be debited each time your book or creative work is bought and sold. The
amount debited equals 60% of the total sales price. The remaining 40%
is allocated to Web Reader.Com for operation expense, processing, markeing
and retail markup.
Web Reader.Com reserves
the right to review and change the allocation of revenue sales.
